Watch tower

 Formerly a lookout tower in Františkovy Lázně, located on the eastern edge of the town. It was originally called "Dankwarte" (thankful lookout), but also "Strážní věž" (watchtower). During World War I, it was completed by the town's beautification association. The building was ceremoniously opened on April 16, 1916, and served several functions. There was a modest restaurant on the ground floor, and the watchman lived upstairs, who also took care of the maintenance of the park and allowed access to the observation tower. At that time, the surrounding area was bare, so it was possible to see Cheb from the lookout tower, with Dyleň and Zelený vrch with the Bismarck lookout tower behind it, as well as the foothills of the Spruce Mountains and the Ore Mountains and the peaks of the Slavkov Forest. Such a view is long gone. Today, the lookout tower is overgrown with much taller trees, and few visitors to the current stylish café have any idea of its original purpose. We reveal the unique history of this exceptional building, which is protected as a historical monument and, according to information from the National Heritage Institute, is being considered for designation as a cultural monument, in a broader context during the social event "Heritage Trail," which is also the only legitimate opportunity to enter the tower and view the castle from a perspective that normally remains hidden.

CONDITIONS: The observation tower is accessible as part of the "Heritage Trail" social event, depending on the season. Guests will receive a tourist stamp with their reservation invoice.

REZIDENCE ZÁMEČEK, in celebration of its 100th anniversary, has issued a collector's card for its observation tower in cooperation with KČT. The principle and purpose of the entire project is to visit individual locations and create a comprehensive collection of collector's cards.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS: available from March 1, 2026, the collector's card can only be purchased by guests of our café or restaurant (according to opening hours), with a rule of one guest per collector's card. We will not send the collector's card by mail or deliver it by any other means.
